Centre for Agribusiness Training, Research and Advisory Services (CATRAS) is a Malawi based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening agribusiness development through the integration of education, applied research, and practical advisory services.
CATRAS was established to respond to the growing need for market driven, evidence-based agribusiness solutions that go beyond theory and deliver measurable impact for farmers, cooperatives, Agri-enterprises, and institutions.
CATRAS is led by a Board of Directors comprising of experienced educators, researchers, and agribusiness practitioners with deep knowledge of Malawi’s agricultural sector and value chains. This multidisciplinary leadership ensures that CATRAS combines academic rigor, field experience, and business insight in all its work.
CATRAS strengthens Malawi’s agri-food supply chain by improving efficiency, resilience, and market access from production to consumption. Through agribusiness strategy design, sustainable supply chain analysis, training of trainers, and extension support, CATRAS helps farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses reduce post-harvest losses, meet quality and export standards, and access domestic and regional markets. By integrating research, policy analysis, and practical training, CATRAS supports commercialisation, youth participation, climate resilience, and inclusive growth contributing to improved food security, higher farmer incomes, and a more competitive agri-food sector in Malawi.
